These Pictures Made My Day...

...it's the "antidote" to the Slave Leia phenomenon!

  1. Is it just me or does that whole article read like a hastily thrown-together excuse to post more pictures of fangirls in spandex costumes?

  2. It wasn't hastily-written (actually, it took me a while to write) but I thought people that read the comics news and like to look at pictures of costumes, whether it's girls reading them or not, might be interested in such an article. The entire idea of the article was mine and mine alone, CBR just posted it. I hope someone else liked it!

  3. Mar, I approve of the sentiment, but to me the cons aren't just about the costumes but that's how its always portrayed. It's kind of like, "look, girls can go too if they dress up". I have gone for the past four years to SDCC and not dressed up once.

Sure dressing up is fine, but it is about the comics, right?

  4. Of course it's all about the comics. I wouldn't go if it wasn't. I certainly didn't mean to infer in my article that girls can go to conventions only if they dress up -- I apologize if it appeared that way. I was trying to dispel some of the myths and stereotypes with what I wrote, and I hope I did that, even if it might have led to a few new ones. Though I agree that local newscasts and such always seem to make conventions seem like it's about the costumes, which, as I said, are just easy targets because they're so visual.

Just for the record, I've never dressed up either and I've been going to SDCC for half my life! (Unless you count my recent "reporter for CBR" costume.)

  6. Shouldn't that be "auntie"-dote?
