"Batman R.I.P."

When quizzed about the "Batman Will Die In Final Crisis" online rumors, Dan DiDio tells Wizard:

"
I’m not sure where these rumors started from, and I’m not sure what people are talking about there, but we do have a rather exciting series, a big storyline starting within Batman and being written with Grant Morrison called “Batman: R.I.P.”"

Well, far be it for me to add gasoline to these Internet rumors.

Actually, I heard that Zatanna goes crazy and says "No more Batman." And Batman disappears.

No, actually I didn't hear that.

  2. But it wouldn't have effected the ACTUAL Batman characters.

The Batwannabes of Morrison's run would be screwed though.

  3. Don't get too excited about the upcoming Batman storyline; it's just 6 solid issues of Batman working out on a treadmill.

(That's right, it's "Batman: Running In Place"!)

  4. Honestly though, if I were spitballing, my two guesses are: Spoiler &/or Jason Todd.

  5. John,

Isn't every Batman story just Batman running in place, maintaining the status quo?

  6. And, as always when someone complains about "the status quo" in comics, I refer them here:

Where I eloquently explain why "the status quo" is more important and useful than people think, and why you shouldn't change it lightly.

  7. Or "Namtab Erom On," depending on who is writing it.

My prediction: Flatliners, starring Kiefer Sutherland as Batman.

  8. John,

I'm not complaining, just pointing out the obvious. I understand the importance of status quo, I just don't like stories like that. It's why I largely read non Big Two stuff.

  10. I am helping Dave Cockrum's widow Paty sell off Dave's personal comics collection--Golden and Silver Age books, his X-Men file copies, etc. Please be kind enough to mention this at your blog and share the news with others.
Details can be found at www.thecliffordmethod.blogspot.com

    Thank you, Clifford Meth.

  12. Andy- if that happens...I don't want to sound like I'm caught in the throes of drunken hyperbole, but if that happens, I'm pretty sure there will be no more tommorow.

    PRETTY SURE.
