Badass Japanese X-Men Cartoon Intros

Has anybody seen these?

They're openings to the X-Men cartoons when they ran in Japan -- specially-made intros done in anime style.

They are quite the badass.

  1. Wow. Uh, I have to admit, I expected those to be kind of lame, but they were...pretty awesome, actually.

  2. I have said before that I'd like Marvel to be in a "near future" sort of setting, what with Starktech & Reed's inventions & alien intervention & whatnot. Apparently Japan was like "duh?"

  3. I want to know what the songs translate to in English!

  4. They even managed to make Gambit seem not totally sucky! ^_^

My favourite bit has to be Jubilee throwing a Hadoken in the first one. Priceless.

  5. Cry for the moon? Those wacky Nipponese.

I'm not so much into it, but they weren't bad. The blatant swipes and static poses even reminded me of classic 60's Marvel's "animation."

Gambit does not suck. I finally gave up on the X-Universe a few years after Claremont left (midway through "Fatal Attractions,") and I see Gambit as the last good character added to that universe on Chris' way out (though Bishop once had potential.) There's a lot of excess affection out there for Gambit, but what throws me is the hate. Remy's dreamy, yo.

  7. I have been confused by the haters in the Gambit club, too. Then again, I didn't read any of the stuff that focused on him. He just seems like he's ripe for someone to reinvent, to me.

  8. Ps Ultimate Gambit should have been black.

  9. Wow, they took some liberties with Jubilee's power set, there. Awesome liberties, don't get me wrong...

Still, I think the best part of all these is Rogue winking in the first one. Only the Japanese could take that character and make her that adorable.

  10. I remember seeing those in the '90s. I think the credits had to be redone as a commercial necessity because the original version was just uninspired.

  11. Gambit was a good character before he was given a rather ridiculous backstory, and his accent became so comically exaggerated.

  12. Ororo's expression on intro #1 when she's charging up is priceless.
