Gun Marketers Sez: "Pink Is For Girls"

According to this article, gun shops across the country are stocking up on pink handguns and rifles to attract the all-important women market.

These female-friendly firearms include a Remington 20-gauge shotgun with a pink and black stock emblazoned with the slogan: "Shoot like a girl if you can!"

Dude!

I was curious if this was really going on, or just one of those cute "stranger than fiction" news items that turn out to be bogus. So for your viewing pleasure:

  1. Other than the whole "pink-is-for-girls" thing being pretty annoying, I'm all for it.

  2. its another instance of 'do what the japanese did a few years ago' there was a short time when they offered a hello kitty pink handgun (non working but easily modable to make working..all you need is a firing pin and spring)it was a super limited collectible ..i will try to track you down some pics of it. might take a few days as all i end up with thus far is pics of the hello kitty dildo and other such shit. in japan they have real gun control..but it doesn't stop making guns with licenced crap on them...just take out a few key parts. then sell em to otaku.

    the whole idea is retarded.

  5. I think the real question is, how many gay men/hipster kids will jump all over this for the camp/irony factor?

Hell, I'm not hip, and I'd be all over this.

  6. Yes, it's real. My daughter has a pistol with a bubblegum-pink grip. Used to shoot pretty well with it, too.

It's unfortunate, but not really surprising, that gun manufacturers' first thought when trying to specifically market their wares to "girls" is "Let's make 'em pink." No other color says as clearly, "This isn't for him." I predict that if this works, many gun shops will begin to look as if it doesn't really matter what color the gun is. As, indeed, it doesn't.

  9. That's my daughter.

I trust her more than most adults.

Hers is custom though, and I do other colors. She specifically requested pink. Her little brother wants olive drab.
