Maybe McDuffie's name initially might not carry the same "marquee" value as Brad Meltzer, but with a proven track record both in comic books and the "Justice League Unlimited" animated series, the book finally has somebody that can make it truly great again.

It's about the long term shepherding of a title, not the short-term gimmicks -- building a fan-base, not slash-and-burn guerrilla marketing tactics.

And team titles like "JLA" & "X-Men" benefit most from this approach.

  1. He's doing some yummy work on Fantastic Four.

That he's about as scientifically smart as Reed Richards doesn't hurt.

  2. We should have more scientists writing comics. Just think of the sorts of superheroes and villains one could come up with just by having something that bends or even breaks a scientific principle. ^_~

  4. meh, he's no Meltzer and I am not enjoying his Fantastic Four, but it could be good.

I was praying for Guggenheim cause everything he touches is amazingly wonderful, at least he's back on Wolverine!

Hey's got a better track record than Meltzer.

McDuffie = Great JL Cartoon that ran for 5 seasons!

    Meltzer = No cartoon.

    McDuffie wins!

  6. This is the second-best news I've heard all weekend.

(First: Waid back on Flash. Third: Possible Sugar & Spike collection.)

  7. Melzer's constant stint on the New York Times Bestseller list kind of trumps a Cable Cartoon series.

  8. Plus Identity Crisis is what got me into DC comics, and now after loyally reading Marvel for 20 years, I actually enjoy DC more.

  9. As a major JLU fan, I'm creaming myself over this.

If I had one caveat, it would be that McDuffie never seemed to be able to get a handle on Superman. Hopefully he can work it out. Still, man, this has me jazzed.

But, that doesn't mean he has a good handle on the characters.

Heck, why don't we have Ann Coulter write the next Women Woman book - after all, she's been on the New York Times Bestseller list too!

McDuffie has shown he has a good handle on the characters time and time again. Meltzer will always be the guy who totally ruined Jean Lorning for me.

  11. IMO, McDuffie's track record with the JLU cartoon trumps Meltzer's novels because it's writing DC superheroes. I strongly disliked "Identity Crisis" and consider his JLA mediocre at best. It wouldn't matter to me if Meltzer had won a Pulitzer; McDuffie's superhero work is far better than Meltzer's.
