The New Supergirl
It's official -- Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort is the new Supergirl on "Smallville."
From People Online:
"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude," Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. "We've wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent's cousin, but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!"
Uh-oh.
Let's be fair - maybe she'll be like the Supergirl from the animated series and not from the comics.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least she should be better dressed than the one from the comics (albeit things are still looking up in the comics for her).
Do many people have obedient cousins? If she's not Clark's obedient cousin, then who is?

Sounds like the usual producer hyperbole, and not a million miles away from exactly the same kind of thing the producers of the respective shows said when they introduced Dawn to Buffy, or that kid sister for that girl who died in the OC.
ReplyDeleteThis is where I cough and say "jailbait" under my breath as I'm doing so, as there's usually something inherently creepy going on when they cast actresses older than the part they're playing in tween dramas these days. It's like they have one eye on the character they have to play, and the other on the inevitable Maxim photoshoot they'll be doing to promote the show.
I suppose in that respect she'll be quite close to the (current) comics version.
Would it kill them to give us Streaky and Comet as well?

ReplyDeleteAre you saying that Ryan wasn't there to be drooled over by pre-pubescant viewers, while Marissa (or her sister) were pure expliotation?
Michelle Trachtenberg was the very age she was supposed to depict (15) when cast as Dawn. Is that better? I'm not so sure.
