Again, thanks for all the emails of support that are coming in.
I'm closing shop until Dec. 29.
It's just my crazy work schedule before Christmas, and the fact that the holidays are sacred to me. I realize for some people, nothing is sacred. I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on that one. What else more can be said?
If you comment, I will still moderate, though I will put a cap on any extremely long threads. I just don't have the time to sort through 100+ comments.
If you email, I will still respond, but when schedule permits.
Have a very happy and healthy holiday, and I will see you before the New Year! :-)
Cool simpsons pics/videos! Happy Winter Solstice!
ReplyDeleteSigh...not sure how to email you, so here is a private message you can post if you want.
ReplyDeletei wanted to let this go, but i can't:
"realize for some people, nothing is sacred. I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on that one. What else more can be said?"
Why must you take these pot shots?
Val, not everyone who disagrees with you, however strongly, either hates you or enjoys child porn. Or supports it's selling/distribution.
It's been very trying to read your blog as if I support child molestation because I accept a consequence of free speech. I think we both have loved ones who have been forced to face molestation, and I don't think either one of us takes the issue lightly.
I believe anyone convicted of child molestation should be in prison for life, no parole though I do believe they should be given counseling and care to make peace with themselves and whatever gods they believe in.
As much as I sympathize with victims going on to become abusers, I know there is choice in the matter. My partner has never molested a child, breaking the cycle of abuse. She is the strongest woman I know.
Do I want people to buy pictures of child porn? No, and I don't you do either because we wouldn't people we love to be exposed to such things or to relive such traumas.
I wish I could explain how much it hurts when you claim I support such things, when I merely fear the government banning artistic expression like they have banned gay marriage.
Will comics or books that feature gay characters be banned in some states or counties? And if we don't have that avenue to humanize homosexuals, how will gays ever gain acceptance?
I really do respect you Val, even if I come off harsh and angry, especially about religion due to a lifetime of condemnation and recent events.
I wish you the best in your work, and will be waiting to read Cloak and Dagger when it hits the shelves.
all my love,
Snow
I read your blog everyday but very rarely comment. I just wanted to say thank you for for thoughtful, fun and sometimes challenging posts through out the year.
ReplyDeleteThe events of the past week have stunned me, frankly. I find it perplexing that you even have to defend your position with regards to depictions of child porn, I thought condemnation of such things were one of the last universally shared viewpoints of society. Guess I was wrong.
I wish you all the best for the holiday season. Have a good, relaxing break.
Val, I don't know if you know this but most readers outside the US can't see Hulu videos.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and David, Valerie, and best wishes for 2009!
ReplyDeleteYour honesty in exposing your points of view, bravery in sticking to them and the HONOR code that guides them both are a true EXAMPLE of DECENCY in an INDECENT time.
ReplyDeleteAs I have said in the support e-mail I sent you:
"If a person like that is not fit to run an organization like Friends of Lulu, than who the BLOODY HELL is?"
Meant EVERY WORD of it!
A Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and God bless.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY HANNUKKA/MERRY CHRISTMAS/HAPPY KWANZAA/HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays, Val. I don't always agree with you, but I always admire your courage.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the various uses of the Simpsons in the recent discussions, I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the Season One episode titled "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge". (Marge organizes a protest to remove the extreme cartoon violence from "Itchy & Scratchy" after Maggie replicates an action she saw on the cartoon.)
ReplyDelete(And yes, I am a strong supporter of cartoon violence, having watched and enjoyed MGM and Warner Brothers cartoons for years. I don't condone practical jokes like El Explodo cigars, but I have been jonesing for a Nerf Vulcan EBF-25! suh-WEET!)
Merry Christmas to you and yours. While you don't know me or mine from Adam, let me say that your honest communication of yourself and your convictions are encouraging in trying times.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the C&D book! Peace,
-Nas
Have a good one.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Valerie.
ReplyDeleteHope yours was a merry one, Val!
