Cloak & Dagger!

I've literally just walked into my apartment after returning from San Diego, but I just wanted to pop in and say what I wanted to say for several months now: I'm working on a mini-series for Marvel called "Cloak & Dagger" and I'm pretty damn excited.

My thanks to Marvel Comics for making a childhood dream come true, and thanks so much to the people who read this blog every day and support it and me.

More to come in the days to follow, for sure. But now -- there is the resting. And, hot on the heels of the resting -- the writing. Oh yes, there will be writing.

Speak to you soon,
Val

  9. Cool, I've always thought Cloak & Dagger didn't get enough love. I look forward to seeing what you do with them...and then it inevitably being thrown away as the continuity gets ruined.

  10. First comment NOT. You guys are fast...:P
    But the sentiment remains.
The only BAD thing is that 2009 is still a LOOOONG way to come.

Congrats, Val! I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park!

  22. Congratulations on writing a comic! Last I saw of C&D was on the Runaways series and they seemed interesting once again.

  23. Hey, that's awesome! I'm sure you'll do something wonderful with that particular duo. Cloak and Dagger play a major part in the second half of the New Mutants Classic volume I read last month and it re-ignited my interest in them. So this is pretty timely!

Anyway, I can't wait to read a comic featuring your distinctive "voice." Congratulations and good luck!

  24. You're going to make me start buying Marvel comics again, aren't you?

  29. Congratulations, Valerie. I'm sure this will be only the first of many exciting opportunities for you. I'll buy the floppies AND the trade. AND the hardcover!

  30. Val, I don't like Marvel these days, what with the Civil War and the deal with the devil Spidey made and all that, plus I tend to overall just like DC better.

But rest assured, I'm buying this as soon as it comes out. ^_~ Admittedly, my only real experience with the characters is from "Maximum Carnage" (I've got the trade) but they seem like a neat pair and I'm sure you'll do great with them!

I'd also love to hear more from your perspective on the "Women in Comics" panel!

  31. I've been a C&D fan since I first came across them in Runaways. You+Them makes me very, very excited.

And here I was hoping to cut down...

  45. Ah... might we be seeing other ... customers of the Kingpin's metahuman laboratory?

It might be the art, but the original C&D seemed to be teens who had been altered, and perhaps aged. There was never a sense of them being teens, more like Peter Parker, somewhere in their twenties. That I think was part of the strength of the stories... they had mature bodies, but as homeless teens, they were trying to figure things out.

I like the art, but find Dagger's outfit just a little... wrong. The cutouts of the costume don't seem to serve a purpose (unless they suggest an actual dagger, in which case it could be done better). And Cloak... well, I was thinking Morpheus as Kai'ckul...

So, when's the publication party? Wanna get my copy signed!

  46. Nice.

I saw the headline on CBR and I was like "...wait, what? For realz?"

    Very, very cool.

    Congrats.
