Who Dies In Heroes For Hire #15???

Admittedly, I have not always been the biggest fan of the latest incarnation of "Heroes For Hire." I've always seen the title as somewhat less than "Birds of Prey" and somewhat more like Marvel's amswer to Top Cow's "babe" line of comics. But apparently somebody dies in tomorrow's issue.

According to the online preview, it looks like it might be Humbug, who is apparently infected with some Brood-like thing. But I think in order for the issue to be really emotionally resonant (yeah, I realize this is the same book that showcased "Heroes For Hentai," but...), either the core characters of Misty Knight or Colleen Wing would have to go.

My money's on Colleen. But we'll see tomorrow.

Also, does anybody know if #15 is officially the last issue? I know on books like this with short runs, the last issues can get kinda crazy because "all bets are off," as it were.

  1. You know, I read the beginning of this comic, & sort of thought that, after a while, the cheesecake got to be too "in your face" for me. I'm all about seeing slinkily dressed women go all samurai grindhouse on some folks, but at some point, gah! Button up!

That said, I'm hoping nobody interesting dies.

  2. I would hate for anyone to die. They are some of my favorite characters, even if they do get slutted up a lot. The Colleen/Misty thing is one of the best female friendships in comics. Great Misty Quote: "I love that crazy white girl so much I could holler." Further, people forget how challenged Danny Rand was by a martial artist female when he first met Colleen, way back in the day.
However, there is one other character on the team that would really shake people up: Shang-Chi.
Just writing that, it kills me. I'm with Mordicai. No one interesting should die.
While I totally agree with your overall assessment of H4H, I do like it. BoP is better and it IS too slutty, but it's still got some good moments and it's a lot of fun.
For example, the moment when Orca died and Shang-Chi's reaction was really powerful and well done, and they have a good time out there kicking but. They also played an interesting, Switzerland'esque role in Civil War, that I very much enjoyed.

  3. I don't know if they ever officially announced that #15 was the last issue, but it was the last one solicited...

  4. I think you're right - seems to me that Colleen will be the one to die, if only because Misty's featured prominently post WWH solicits and Colleen isn't.

Or - Humbug'll die, Misty will give (or at least try to give) Moon Boy to Paladin as agreed last issue, and Colleen will leave her in disgust saying that she's sold her soul.

Actually, yep - my money's on that last scenario.

  5. Matt Fraction proves in Iron Fist he should be writing this book. Whenever Luke Cage and the H4H girls show up, the awesomeness is brought.

  6. gotta agree with Kenny in a big way here. That Misty line I cited above was from an Iron Fist issue.

  7. SPOILER...

I flipped through it at the store. It looks like it's Humbug, thank God. All the cool ones were still standing at the end. Humbug was in some weird other form, so, whatever. Hard to tell.

I'm going to buy the whole series in trades. I have the first one. I liked it. Should be two more, right? I'm in. It looks like it's a pretty solid last issue.

Otherwise, though, pretty crappy week for new comics, huh?

  9. The difference between this book and Birds of Prey is the difference between trying to be "smart" when it comes to sex, or not even giving a fuck and accepting "gross" as the natural order of things.

  11. This ... it just sucked. Beyond belief. I was reading for the Black Cat, but fell head over heels for the awesomeness of Misty and Colleen. Which, as soon as Zeb Wells took over, evaporated.

The art's never been good. The writing just got steadily worse. I agree with whoever it was that said Matt Fraction should be writing Heroes for Hire, so I'm glad he'll be getting to play with Misty and Colleen in Iron Fist.
