Buyer question for "McFarlane Twisted X-Mas Sexy Topless Mrs. Claus Custom" on Ebay:
"I am interested. Please send me a photo of the front of figure."
John Byrne dishes on Roger Stern and maybe Stan Lee. Still trying to interpret, need more coffee.
Shia "Transformers" Lebouf now has "cred," now "hardcore."
A chunk of the universe is apparently missing. Bob the Monitor currently being interviewed.
Michael Eisner sees Bazooka Joe as next Mickey Mouse; Mike and Ike, encouraged by news, currently seeking representation. (via Blog@Newsarama)
When this Japanese comic book heroine needs to kick ass in the boardroom, she flips on her "Man Switch."
Tom Brevoort provides shocking evidence of Skrull invasion. Almost as scary as that birthday party alien in "Signs," not as scary as haggard-yet-cherubic Vince Vaughn mugging it up for the camera in "Fred Claus."
Shocking new "Greatest American Hero" footage. Mr. Maxwell arranging intervention.

Was that Byrne jab an involuntary reflex? 'Cause that link led to some harmless teasing from Byrne.
ReplyDeleteInteresting note in that article on the japanese heroine
ReplyDelete"Government acknowledges that some of its demographic problems, such as the rapid ageing of society, can be solved only by redrawing the gender balance within Japan Inc. About 70 per cent of women quit their jobs when they become pregnant and most do not return to work for at least 15 years. According to research by Goldman Sachs, even a modest change in Japanese society – the addition of 2.6 million women to the workforce – would have a huge impact, raising long-term GDP growth from existing forecasts of 1.2 per cent to 1.5 per cent."
So they expect to solve a demographic problem of not enough young people, by encouraging more women to choose careers?
pduggie: I parsed that as something along the lines of "we need more younger people to work to replace an aging workforce, to enable us to keep our GDP up. Also, all those additional taxpayers will be able to fund healthcare (*) and pensions for the people who will be retiring soon."
ReplyDeleteA similar scenario is being played out in my country (New Zealand)- our prime minister recently suggested that solo mothers should go back to work ASAP after their babies were born to help the economy. I forget how long, exactly, she wanted people to wait but for some reason 2-6 weeks sticks out in my mind...
*I'm assuming that Japan has some form of state pension/healthcare/whathaveyou: I have no basis for this assumption, and is quite probably wrong.
On topic: Yeah, at first glance the idea of needing a "Man Switch" to be a better worker and better able to navigate the social waters of the corporate world does seem a trifle weird, to say the least... but is it merely a visual shorthand in the manga for a whole raft of other skills (self confidence, assertiveness, etc) needed to succeed in the corporate world? Most manga I've read go at a breakneck pace and don't have time other than a panel or two to dwell on such things... <-2 cents.
Oh man.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone ever makes a Greatest American Hero movie, Seth Rogan's gotta play him.
It's just a lock.
