Michael Jackson: How I Choose To Remember Him

/I'm spent today.

  1. RIP? He's not dead is he? Unless you mean Farrah.

  2. Also, even though Michael looks normal in that pic, even that isn't the "real" him. I remember him with a bigger nose and darker skin and an afro. That's the Michael I'll always remember fondly.

Right now it's almost 1 am in Manchester, and I'm watching the BBC News about it, when I should be getting to sleep and waking up in six hours. But I can't, I'm reminded of the night Lennon died. I was 14, it was New York, and I stayed up for hours listening to the people talking about him, not on the Internet of course but the radio. Michael Jackson never had the influence on me that Lennon had, musically, but he was a fixture in my life, like a landmark. He never had the opportunity at a normal, happy life, and he grew up under such distended conditions, it was little wonder he had such problems in later life. Hopefully he'll find in the next world the serenity he didn't seem able to achieve in this one.

  8. I love the Jackson 5, and I owned Thriller in 1983 like everyone else, but Michael was already in the process of recreating his body at that point. He grew into a sad and pitiable man.

These things come in threes right. So we have Farrah, MJ, and who else?

  9. I said a few years ago that he is one of those people where the news of his death will not surprise me... But now... I just always hoped he would, I don't know, get better. Remember who he was. Now it's too late for that.

  10. I was a big fan of Michael in the Eighties. It's a sad thing how his terrible childhood and his entourage really fucked him up... His cariere became so pathetic after "Bad". I saw him live in Werchter, Belgium, in august of 1987 and that was a fantastic experience.... I'll try to remember him like the way he was then and hopefully people won't remember him too much as the freak-pedophile Wacko Jacko (I hate that name they gave him)...

  12. Apparently he was also known to have a fondess for comic books that rivaled even the most obsessive fanboy.

Yep, I heard Larry King say yesterday that he visited him once in his hotal room and he had these giant Superman & Batman statues in there. And he told King, "I love them. I just love them."

King thought that was sort of cool, but it also creeped him out a little.
