JG Jones responded to a request from Comic Book Resources regarding his participation in the final issue of Final Crisis by writing:
"Any problems completing the series are my own. I love Doug Mahnke’s art, and he would have probably been a better choice to draw this series in the first place."
He also indicated that he would not be redrawing the final issue for the eventual FC collection, and that he is, according to CBR, "currently revising his plans for the future."
Doug Mahnke will indeed be providing the art for Final Crisis #7.
I realize fans might be angry at JG for not being able to draw the final issue, but I hope they cut him a break. As I have learned as a comic book editor, there are sometimes things beyond our control.

ReplyDeleteWhat????
awesome. I loved Mahnke on JLA and am glad to see him getting more work. DC does need to get Tom Ngyuen to start inking him again, since to guy who inks him now is too heavy of an inker for my liking
ReplyDeleteSo symbollic of this obtuse, awkwardly executed mini series. What a freakin' trainwreck...especially on the heels of DC's Infinite Crisis art debacle.
ReplyDelete...what did he say? Does J.G. Jones not like Grant or somethin'? You probably won't say, and I understand, but my interest/nosey-ness is peaked.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Jones said. He never should have been working on a seven issue mini-series with inadequate lead time. Also, the series should have been better written, so there's that to consider, as well.

This is such a shame.
ReplyDeleteBoth the fact he wasn't able to finish it and the attitude of some fans about it.
He sounds genuinely sorry, mainly with the bit of revising his plans.
Hopefully people will leave the pitchforks at home this time.
