  2. Yay indeed!

I'm not even from the States and I've been following this and hoping for it.

    It's certainly a historic night.

  3. The 21st Century starts tonight!

  4. OMFG

I...I...I don't have words. It's...I didn't think it would come. I didn't think that my son would live in this world.

I didn't think that my wife would be able to have the chance to live in a world where these kind of options would be open to her. McCain is talking now. We're listening to him talk about bridging differences and the defense of security.

We are filled with joy and tears and dizzying hope. Tonight, I am ignoring the hatred and the ignorance of the past two years.

Tonight, we are thinking of the future. It is the future of Langston Hughes when he said...

O, yes, I say it plain, America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath-- America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death, The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies, We, the people, must redeem The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers. The mountains and the endless plain-- All, all the stretch of these great green states-- And make America again

  5. This is a proud time for me. I voted for the first time in my life this year and I voted for Obama. I'm proud that he's our next president.

  6. Your name is Valerie? I was wondering if you'd take a look at my blog at www.jmralls2001.blogspot.com and see if you'd like to be one of my followers. Although I prefer the term readers because followers sounds like I'm starting a cult. I'm going to become a follower of yours. I'd become one of Mike Manley's and Matt Wieringo's also but they don't have the follower feature on their blogs.

  7. I got home a little while ago. This city is going nuts; in a good way so far.

  8. I did the same thing, I just wasn't quite as cute. Although my gf would disagree. :)

  9. The United States as a capitalist country has ended. We have elected the most liberal government in our history.

  10. I don't like Mr. Obama.

I'm going to be very unhappy the next 8 years.

    He ran a superior campaign.

Poli Sci majors will study this campaign for a generation.

He appealed to more voters and he won.

Every 4 years we peaceful transition power; something which no other nation can claim.

Mr. Obama, I respectfully disagree with you but I respect you.

  11. As a side note; Senator McCain's concession speech was excellent. He seemed to be the man I supported 8 years ago, not the man I was disgusted with this year.

Hopefully this defeat will lead to some soul searching in our party. We need to stop being Nixon's "Solid South" and be an economic and foreign conservative party. We must stop paying obeisance to the religious nuts.

  12. For the first time in my adult life I am truly proud of MY country.

  13. I put my faith where it should logically reside - in bookmakers. One UK oddsmaker has been paying out Obama bets for the last couple weeks.

This is just the beginning and while I am optimistic (I voted for the D candidate for the first time in 20 years - proud Green) we do need to keep pressure on the administration to do the right thing. I would write more, but I am a bit buzzed.

And you do look good when excited.

  14. Obama is at best a hair left of center. He is in no way an uber-liberal, you crazy right wing nuts.

  15. Obama's won it ! Yes !

And you ARE looking good these days

  16. "The United States as a capitalist country has ended."

Great! Does that mean I don't have to pay for my comics tomorrow?

  17. While this outcome didn't surprise me, this country sure did.

  18. I teared up. This is just so amazing to me.

    ????????????????????

Hate to break the mood going on right now (I'm happy too!) but you really are a moron.

PS: you do look awfully cute in that photo Val! You should make it your new logo!

I voted for Bob Barr... Because I Liked him running on a 'Pro Mustache' Platform. (ok... I really did vote for Obama)

  21. "Obama is at best a hair left of center. He is in no way an uber-liberal"

this is true. I remember reading in his book how though he wasn't pro-censorship, he also didn't believe that certain types of programming should be shown on TV during primetime -- that he didn't want his little kids watching stuff like erectile dysfunction ads. That doesn't sound like a "crazy liberal stance" to me.

  22. I thought McCain's speech was as eloquent & moving as Obama's last night.

Where was that McCain for the last six months???

    ReplyDelete
  23. Overall, I'm just really happy & relieved.

Also, I think I have really long thumbs. Gad!

    ReplyDelete

    (Mister) Fantastic Thumbs?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh. And yes, you do have abnormally large thumbs.

    I'm sure it's a sign of intelligence.

    Or a genetic abnormality.

  26. It was super cool to show my daughter the video of Obama's speech and to show her what is possible in American. Now, if we can just get a good Supergirl comic for little girls...

  27. That McCain appearance on SNL the saturday before was really... desperation... or sad really. Watching it again... maybe he knew he's lost the election at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Great! Does that mean I don't have to pay for my comics tomorrow?"
Of course not, just as long as you plan on not taking them out of the store. You sound like that hysterical lady that said she no longer has to worry about filling her tank or paying her mortgage.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Also, can anyone tell me what is different or transformative about Obama other than his race? Same liberal views, same liberal policies.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Not to be mean...I noticed your thumbs and it seems most girls I know have the opposite bend to there joints: thumbs, wrists that can touch their forearms and, of course, the creepy elbow that bends slightly further than it should. (Shudder!)

But, ya, like someone said, you are extra cute when you give an excited smile. I think that's most though...I take that back...I know people, not excluding myself, that if we give REALLY big smile, its off-putting and kind of alienating...at least from my perspective. Heh.

    Yay! Obama!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Remember kids- if you're far enough to the right, you can call EVERYTHING liberal because it's left of you.

I'm happy and proud to be an American. I haven't felt this patriotic or loyal or overjoyed at our democratic processes in... oh... 8 years! I feel as though freedom won this election. Fear-mongering lost and freedom won.

Obama has his work cut out for him. Rebuilding a gutted nation is not going to be easy and the neo-con damage is so severe it's probably not going to be finished in 4 years.

After all, it took Bush almost 8 years to destroy 200 years of freedom and 50 years of international prestige.

Bless the American people for making the right choice.

  32. Congratulations, Valerie!

  33. Usually, when we collectively remember where we were, what we were doing, how we felt, it is because of a tragedy.

Everyone will remember November 4, 2008, and it will be because of a positive event. That, in and of itself, is worth celebrating.

Where was I? Obama NYC HQ, watching grown women cry uncontrollably at the news. Then at the Sheraton in Midtown, at the Democratic party, listening to the speech.

While I was disappointed in McCain's transformation after the Convention, I still respect him, and wish all elections were this exciting.

Someone (Jefferson?) once said, "People get the government they deserve." I generally consider that a curse, but this time, it was a blessing.

(Of course, Senator Stevens may yet win, forcing him to resign, allowing a certain someone to run for his vacant seat. Oh to be in that Senate elevator when Hillary meets Sarah...)
