Doctor Who: No! Yes! Maybe!

Now Neil Tennant "isn't sure" if he's going to quit playing Doctor Who. Before that, he said that he thought Billie "Rose" Piper should play the Doctor, and before that he announced he was quitting the show.

Well, what really happened was, the Doctor went in the Tardis and traveled to 2011 New Jersey, the site of the latest Chiller Theatre convention. He saw himself signing 8 x 10 glossies next to Michael Shanks and that guy who won the first "Survivor" tournament.

Then he got back in the Tardis, called Steven Moffat, and said: "hey."

Apparently, the same thing happened to Tobey Maguire several months ago.

That said, I'd really pull for a female Doctor Who.

/I like Tennant, but he is too pretty for me.

  1. Methinks you might mean David Tennant - Neil Tennant is lead singer for the Pet Shop Boys. :-) Although Doctor Who Tennant did get the idea for his stage name from Pet Shop Boys Tennant, so there is a few degrees of separation there.

    As for the post point, I like Tennant in the role very much, but I am getting the feeling that it might be best for all if he did move on sooner rather than later; he has a few tics that are becoming a bit tiring.

  2. Isn't Neil Tennant a Pet Shop Boy?

  3. Agreed, time for a female Time Lord. I'd like to see the return of Jenny. Her character creation story well, was laughable, but her character was awesome. Most people are expecting the Rami to show up, but she's a villain. Romana is probably dead, but it would be really cool if she could be resurrected. We can't seem to keep the damn Daleks dead after all.

    But the Doctor going female... won't be the Doctor. Okay, there doesn't appear to be ANYTHING with regeneration that would prevent a change in gender in canon, but I don't think the fanboys would go for it. I'm not that hysterical of a fan, and even I don't care for the idea. There are aspects of his character that would just get labeled as "bitchy" if a woman portrayed them. Sad but true.

    And I love me some Tennant but I also thought Eccleston oozed the sexy as Nine and since it is part of the Doctor Who universe, going to Eleven won't kill me. I trust the current production team to find someone good for the role. But David, babe, make up your mind and don't jerk the fans around! And you can always come in as a Doctor 10.2 for a guest role.

  4. And I thought this PvP: Smith/Jones '08 was hysterical.

  5. You're telling me that I finally resolved myself that he was leaving and now maybe not? He announced it at Briton's National Television Awards. What a moron. I'm actually getting excited that Paterson Joseph may be getting the nod to play the Dr. Ever since he played Marquis de Carabas in Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere I've really loved this guy...

  6. I thought he was too pretty in the beginning but then his maniacal nature won me over. I'll miss him if he goes.

  7. Context, context, always the context...

    In short: Tenant (one "n") is:

    A) leaving;
    B) diplomatic about the "Next Doctor should be a woman" issue;
    C) not ruling out ever playing the role again.

    In light of C), it should be underlined that, as a Doctor Who fan himself, David Tenant is aware that several former Doctors have reprised the part, including as guest stars on episodes starring a successor (eg. "The Three Doctors", "The Five Doctors", "The Two Doctors" and "Time Crash"), and in spin-offs produced for radio and other media.

  8. I really liked Eccleston. He was the first Doctor Who I got to officially experience. The pilot of his series I was like, "So this is what all those Brits are yappin' about. Very cool!". I honestly, and this has nothing to do with Tennant per se, I stopped watching it. Ah, well. Maybe I'll get the box-sets.

  9. Oh please, David go.

    really.

    go.

    we need an actor to play the doctor, not a talking ham.

    and the Alan Davies for Doctor Who.
    Alan Davies the comedian, not the guy in comics.

  10. Anonymous6:04 PM

    I would literally kill a drug kingpin in order to see Tennant and Stewart in Hamlet. I left England two weeks prior to the opening.
