according to Now Magazine.
The proposed new Who, Colin Salmon, is currently appearing in the James Bond flick "Quantum of Solace." He also has appeared on "Doctor Who" as the character Dr. Moon.
These casting rumors are always tenuous, but I hope it happens.
Yes, the Doctor can!
ReplyDeleteColin Salmon was excellent in the Bond films and on the shot-lived Keene Eddie. I'd actually hoped he might have been bond instead of Craig, but now his possible presence as Doctor Who might get me to watch.
ReplyDeleteI hear I've been missing something lately, but I was very turned off by the overly-series (while the show was totally ridiculous) tone of the series while the recent very short-haired Doctor was on. It was disappointing after I stayed up pretty much all night trying to make it to the end of a story featuring the Doctor with a scarf on public television. (He was wonderful, and so was the (rather silly, but great) show.)
that guy was badass when he was on prime suspect.
ReplyDeleteI like Salmon, he's a very good actor, but I'm not sure he could bring out the manic quality of the Doctor. Paterson Joseph, now, he could definitely bring the manic.
ReplyDeleteSalmon would probably be more like the Third Doctor (Pertwee), less manic man-child and more supercool swashbuckler. Which might make for a nice change, actually.
Surprising, given all the hype for Patterson Joseph lately, but I am down with this choice, as well.
ReplyDeleteHe was also rumored to be the only gentleman of color ever considered to play James Bond. :)
ReplyDeleteStill pulling for Paterson Joseph. Ever since Neverwhere I've liked him.
ReplyDeleteHe was great as Dr. Moon. I saw his picture on the BBC article sidebar that was listing possible contenders and couldn't figure out what I had seen him in and was feeling too blah to research.
ReplyDeleteOn the Doctor's manic personality: Somewhere on the web, I had ran across a listing of the Doctor's dominate traits per incarnation. The writer had noticed that they had cycled through a set of five traits. I think both Four (the one with the scarf) and Ten qualified for manic. Not all of them have been. Can't remember what Nine was classified as--moody? Point being whoever gets Eleven doesn't need to be manic, and would be justified in being different in his portrayal.
Now I really wish I could hunt it down, it was a useful quote.
Oooo! Yeah, he'd be great for the Doctor! Seen him in a lot of shows, including the Bond films, and he's always excellent.
ReplyDeleteOh, and regarding Hysan's comment, I've also thought he'd be great as Bond. If they were to cast a black man in the role, he'd certainly have all the right charm for the part. I'm sure some folks might balk at the notion, but if they got him for the part, I'd be all for it.
ReplyDeleteIt was from The Sun. Who also broke that James Nesbitt and Robert Carlyle were cast as The Doctor.
ReplyDeleteTonight, RTD stated that no one had yet been cast in the role.
Colin Salmon was indeed considered for the role of Bond. At one stage he was cast in the role, and confirmed it to friends. However, people changed their minds and Craig won out.
ReplyDeleteHe looks familiar I think. It's about time a black man played The Doctor. You'd think that all these years of "dying" that he'd change races at least a few times.
ReplyDeleteThere was one sequence in a old episode apparently where the doctor saw glimpses of possible future incarnations- but i cant for the life of me remember which doctor it was! (I just remember talking about it with an absolute doctor fanatic) anyway, one of them was a man of color, so that'd shut fanboys up (hopefully) throw in the fact that there's more difference, genetically speaking, between a white guy with red hair and a white guy with black hair than their is between a white guy with black hair and a black guy (again, apparently. Hm, I should look that up to be sure. Later.) and then on top of that throw in the fact that Salmon is a great actor, and, yeah, that'd be ace. (though Im still hoping they go for a woman. Or me.).
ReplyDeletehes a great actor, but honestly i think hed make a better james bond myself, i heard a while back eddie izard had been approached for the role of the doctor, and whilst im not a fan of his he does seem to have more of that tom baker/ tenant type vibe about him.
