Experiment: Let's All Vote For Neil Kleid On Zuda
Sure, I like Neil Kleid and Paul Salvi's Action, Ohio strip on Zuda --
But this is more than that.
I'm curious as to how many people we can get to vote for Action, Ohio in the competition.
How vast is the reach of Occasional Superheroine?
See, if we get this down, then we can all mobilize and vote in Jesse Ventura as president.
Here's the instructions, per Neil's Action, Ohio Facebook group:
"Click over to www.zudacomics.com/node/438, register and vote before May 30 (it takes a moment), add the comic as your favorite, and then copy and forward this email to at least two or three friends."
Be sure to write in your comments for Action, Ohio that you were directed there by Occasional Superheroine. :-D
If you for some reason don't like Action, Ohio, then why not try Brendan McGinley's Hannibal Goes To Rome and vote for it?
(Of course, if Brendan wants me to do a "Let's All Vote For Brendan McGinley" post, I could do that and really screw with the whole process...)

Ack! I can't get into reading comics on the puter... I like smudging em in between my greasy fingers... I'm sure it's good.
ReplyDeleteArrrOOOooo!
I'm a native Minnesotan, and grew up with Jesse Ventura as the Gov. He's a wild one. He was actually in a dream I had the other night. We were going hunting, which was weird, because I'm a vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteDont use your power for evil.
ReplyDeleteI`ll vote for the best period.
Many artist worked so hard to be on zuda.
Val-
ReplyDeleteI have no words. Thank you... for what its worth, I love McGinley's HANNIBAL and would encourage any amazing publisher to give the man a contract.

I like Action, Ohio and all...but...aren't you better encouraging people to vote for what they like rather than encouraging them to stuff the ballot box, so to speak?
ReplyDeleteJust thinking out loud..

ReplyDeleteVal wants to exert her blogging control over the unsuspecting population.
Today, Zuda.
Tomorrow, THE WORLD!
[insert evil laugh here!]
"aren't you better encouraging people to vote for what they like rather than encouraging them to stuff the ballot box, so to speak?"
ReplyDeleteI once had an artist ask me to interview him on my blog so he could get promotions for his project. I said to him, "well, I'm happy to do this interview, but you realize that between all the billions of stuff blog readers consume every morning, only a tiny fraction of them are going to pay attention to this. You are really better off finding some sort of angle -- like a writing a short post or two about breaking into comics for my or another blog -- that will catch their attention."
I could have written a post saying "hey now everybody, don't forget to vote in Zuda!" And that would have reached mostly the same crew who have heard about Zuda anyway. I mean, it would have been a nice gesture. But not very effective. Because "hey guys, vote Zuda" is not a story.
The fact that Neil Kleid has conducted this huge (I mean HUGE) campaign to plug his Zuda project -- complete with instructions on how to vote and asking people to ask their friends -- is a story. Whether people agree with it or not, they are the result of one person's burning need to make it in this industry, and use the promotional (online) tools available to him & which are his right to use. To me, that's interesting. That's a story.
Now, if I asked people to vote for Neil as a social experiment and those votes actually had an effect, to me that is also a story.
Now, I didn't discuss this post with Neil beforehand. I was just looking for a story, a hook, something that might inspire people to give a damn about the post, Zuda, Neil's work, Brendan's work, and the whole shebang. Because "hey guys don't forget to vote for Zuda" is not going to do it.
In the heavy competitions in life - not only Zuda, but competing for PR and hits and readers in general -- you need stories.
I just did a mini review for a bunch of indie comics. It was a nice gesture, but it was not a story. I didn't have the time to find an angle to make it a story. But like I said -- nice gesture on my part.
Yay me.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe Zuda horse race is half the fun of the site.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't root for your favorites what's the point?
