read more of this Simpsons/Futurama crossover here Once again, here is your chance to share your pull list and tell us what comics you are buying this week!
It might be the lingering effect of New York Comic Con, but I'm looking at this handy-dandy
comics shipping list for April 23 and nothing is really jumping out at me.
Can you all recommend a few titles?
Uncanny X-Men No 497
ReplyDeleteWolverine First Class No 2
X-Force No 3
X-Men First Class No 11
I may purchase Checkmate when it comes to trade.
Yeah, a bit of a weak week. Still, some interesting reprints of old material. The first volume of the Queen & Country Definitive editions, Rucka writes some nice rough spies even some of the art choices are not 100% adequate. The Kree-Skrull War, retro but nice with gooood art by Neal Adams. First Deadpool only reprints the miniseries and his first appearance by Liefeld, it'll be the second volume where it gets good.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Batman, Checkmate and The Final Countdown (doo doo doooo do, do do doo doo doo!)
ReplyDeleteFables and Jonah Hex, although i get Jonah Hex monthly not in trade. Hex's tightly plotted told-in-one stories of the brutal west with a great rotating cast of artists is probably one of the best under-read comics out there at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'll plug Peter David's Fallen Angel from IDW again. While the switch to IDW has made curse words common and 'peek-a-boo' nudity an 'every third issue' reality, the core of the title (Liandra's pain) remains the same.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, the only other one worth mentioning is Super Friends. The first issue was perfect for my 6 and 4yr old daughters.
I'm not buying much this week either.

I'm even picking up two books I haven't been buying (DotNG, CD) just so I have some extra things in the box.
For you I would recommend X-men First Class 11, it's way more entertaining than most people realize.
And the new issue of Batman.
"Yeah, a bit of a weak week."
ReplyDeleteok, so it wasn't just me. I was worried I was just suffering from convention burnout.
Batman/Outsiders 6
ReplyDeleteRobin 173
[yes, it's a Dixon week for me...]
Pigeons from Hell #1
[I'm horror fan, and it's got a haunted house in the south--it's worth a shot.]
How did I miss Batman & The Outsiders? That too, of course.
ReplyDeleteDeath of the New Gods 8.
ReplyDeleteCountdown 1 (juts because. I've been not buying the series for the last 40 so issues, but picked up #2)
Batman #675
That is all.
Of course with regards to the posted image, Nelson Muntz would say only one thing...
ReplyDelete"HAW HAW! Take that DC and Marvel!"
If you can find it, I recommend Bizarre New World. The first mini was superbly done and the follow-up graphic novel was good, although it's pacing was a tad off. I'm waiting for the third installment to come out now.
ReplyDeleteARMY OF DARKNESS VS XENA WHY NOT #2
BATMAN #675
BIRDS OF PREY #117
BIZARRE NEW WORLD #3
BIZARRE NEW WORLD POPULATION EXPLOSION
COUNTDOWN #1
DARKNESS VS EVA #2
DEATH OF THE NEW GODS #8
HULK #3
HULK VS. HERCULES
JLA #20
MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR #35
MIGHTY AVENGERS #12
MS. MARVEL #26
NEW EXILES #5
POWER PACK DAY ONE #2
SHE-HULK #28
SHEENA ONE-SHOT (decided to give Sheena one more chance to win me over)
SPIRIT #16
SUPERMAN BATMAN #47
THOR #8
ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #53
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #121
UNCANNY X-MEN #497
WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #2
X-FORCE #3
X-MEN FIRST CLASS #11
YOUNG AVENGERS PRESENTS #4
Almost forgot, I also recommend Sky Pirates by Free Lunch Comics. #2 came out at the con, and it's a really inventive and imaginative series. I was privy to the bible before the first issue was even finished being drawn, and lemme tell ya: this thing is gonna be going on for a looooooong time!
ReplyDeleteI read most of what you post, just don't comment very often...
ReplyDeleteThis week for me:
Mighty Avenger #12
Ms Marvel #26
Wolverine First Class #2
Neozoic #4
Really looking forward to that Neozoic issue.
Nana 1 and Nana 2. Actually, I didn't buy them; a friend bought them for me near the International Manga Museum in Kyoto.
ReplyDeleteBut next weekend when I'm in Tokyo I'ma buy a TON of Nana. These things are addictive. They should definitely come with some sort of warning label:
"WARNING: You will start to enjoy reading comics again when you indulge in Nana."
Oh... and I recommend the Nexus Origin One-Shot, even if it is a reprint of the old Dark Horse edition. Albeit recolored. That's one of the best stand-alone comics I've EVER read and it's a fantastic intro to Nexus.
ReplyDeletePeople should be reading Nexus. If it ever comes out on any kind of a regular schedule. It's just as great as it ever was and it'll help right a longtime comic book wrong... during the 90s when everyone was buying comics like crazy, Nexus came back and somehow didn't catch on fire with sales because everyone was too busy snapping up YoungSpawn and WildB.L.O.O.D.
Now it's the world's second chance and we should sieze it and support really good comic book making!
