What Comics Are You Buying This Week?

As my budget is being tweaked and reevaluated (not to mention the apparent spike in food prices), I have to be choosy with what I purchase.

So once again I'm putting the question to the readers:

What comics are you buying this week?

What comics would you recommend?

Further -- if you had to suggest one comic coming out this week to a person who is new to comics, what would it be?

*for your convenience, here is a list of what's shipping*

"God Save Stan Lee" T-shirt available at the comic shop Secret Headquarters, found via Kitsune Noir)

  1. All Star Superman #10
    Blue Beetle #25
    Countdown Special Eclipso 80-Page Giant
Jack Kirbys Fourth World Omnibus Vol 4 HC
    Jack Of Fables #21
    Legion Of Super-Heroes #40
    Spirit #15
    New Avengers #39
    Dan Dare #5

The one comic I'd recommend this week to someone unfamiliar with comics? All-Star Superman.

  2. What I will be picking up later today...

    All Star Superman #10
Countdown Special Eclipso 80 Page Giant
    Countdown To Adventure #8
    Countdown To Final Crisis #5
    Fallen Angel #25
    Green Lantern #29
Jack Kirbys Fourth World Omnibus Vol 04
    Legion Of Super Heroes #40
    Sorrow #4
    Speak O/T Devil #5
    Teen Titans #57
    Transhuman #1

I'd recommend Transhuman to new readers. Hickman is doing visionary work in Pax Romana. I think the guy is really pushing what comics can be. For all those people with preconceptions of comics being silly superhero affairs, this is the sort of thing that can show them comics can be more than just that.

  5. The usual suspects, but if I was recommending some I'd recommend:

Blue Beetle #25, which promises to kick all kinds of ass

Marvel Atlas #2, which appeals to the complete nerd in me

    and...

Proof #6, which is always great and should be a decent jumping on point as its a new story arc.

    Proof, I tell ya, Proof!

Down the line I'll be getting:

  8. Oh wow, Ganges #2 is coming out?

I will definitely pick that up.

For those who are not familiar with it, it's from Fantagraphics Books and is by Kevin Huizenga.

If you are new to Fantagraphics or comics or "indy" comics, this is one to get.

  12. I bought Skim by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki and it's absolutely wonderful! I recommend the heck out of it but it's $18.95.

  13. Nice mention of Secret Headquarters, I live less than a mile from the place... yet although its very close, I still go to my beloved Comics Factory in Pasadena for my comics fix.

  14. Beetle's wrapping up a storyline, so it'll be hard going in cold, but I can garuntee that it'll be the best damn comic that you won't know what the heck's going on in it all week. ^_^

  15. Blue Beetle #25 is the only new title I'm buying this week, but its the end of an arc so not really a good starting place for new readers. I'm probably going to pick up Nodame Cantabile vol. 12 as well.

  16. All Star Superman
    Green Lantern
Blue Beetle (John Rogers' swan-beetle song, alas)
JK 4th World Omnibus (wallet walloper)

(Last week was amazing for marvel books: GHOST RIDER is now oober-cool, almost as cool as IRON FIST)
