I don't see a lot that grabs me this week, so I'll just list a couple of things:
PENANCE RELENTLESS #4 (OF 5)
(I realize it's kind of masochistic to keep buying this,
but hey -- just like the character!)
(I realize it's kind of masochistic to keep buying this,
but hey -- just like the character!)
I realize the cool thing to do is to hate on Penance, but I *really* like Jenkins's writing plus Speedball is my all-time favorite Marvel character, so I'm enjoying it. The Penance mini-series is written a *lot* better than almost anything else I've sampled from Marvel.
ReplyDeleteIron Fist is coming out this week and it's not on your list? For shame! Iron Fist is awesomeness incarnate.
Here's why you should stop giving so much love to the Big Two:
GRENDEL BEHOLD THE DEVIL #3
GROO HELL ON EARTH #3
UMBRELLA ACADEMY APOCALYPSE SUITE #5
Those are three of the best comics currently being published. I'm kinda excited for this week! So much good stuff coming out!
(shill mode on) Hey, there's free comics online every day at ComicMix.com! (shill mode off)
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed Peter Milligan's 'The Programme' at Wildstorm. Nothing like frozen cold war super-heroes from the USA and USSR being awoken into the current world politics. Lots of decent narrative.
ReplyDeleteThis week I'm down for:
ReplyDelete- Umbrella Academy #5
- Iron Fist #12
- Angel #3 (horrible art and all)
- Doom Patrol Vol. 6: Planet Love
- JLA #17 (provided McDuffie is getting to tell a story rather than having to devote an issue to some crossover thing again)
And that's about it. Oh, and Fell #9, probably. Kenny is dead on about Umbrella Academy - it's nine kinds of ace and easily the book I look most forward to reading that's not called Casanova.
chris is right on about these:
ReplyDelete- Umbrella Academy #5
- Iron Fist #12
- Angel #3 (horrible art and all)
& I really hope you don't buy Spider-man...or Penance...but Herc is a good time!
Couple that haven't been mentioned are the second issue of Marc Guggenheim's alien invasion book Resurrection and the fourth issue of the Luna Bros The Sword which has been very good so far.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, seconds (or thirds) on Iron Fist, Grendel and Umbrella Academy.
Prob just the Messiah Complex book and Incredible Herc for me. Probably pick up last week's Legion book too since I overlooked it. Need to start reading through my existing stacks (and TPBs) before I bring much more into the house.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Virgin, Booster Gold, Checkmate, Countdown, JLA, Iron Fist.
ReplyDeleteI say buy nothing, just to see if you can.
Does that Penance cover look like Doom's deep throating the castle to anyone else?
ReplyDeleteFem Force #142
ReplyDeleteAs somebody who just posted his reads for tomorrow, I'd third (second?) the recommendation of Checkmate & Angel.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Fell is very good and it's only like, 2 bucks. Seriously.
Umbrella Academy, Fallen Angel, Grendel, and Iron Fist are the things I'm most looking forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteHm...pretty small week for me.
ReplyDeleteJUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #17
ANGEL #3
AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #16
I figure I might take a look at the new ASM in the store, and depending on how decent it looks I might pick it up.

I second Fallen Angel!
ReplyDeleteIt was originally a DC book, but then DC's all like, "Hey Peter David, your book is only for 30-yr-old balding intellectuals, and it hasn't sold well enough. Bye!" but then IDW goes, "Hey Peter David, we'd like to see you continue your book, come with us."
And Peter David's all like, "Cool."
Justice League, Robin, Angel, and New X-Men for me. Thank you, drive through.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see that Fallen Angel was coming out. I also would strongly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't know, it was Peter David's "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" way of continuing to write Linda Danvers stories. And for those of us who loved Linda in David's run of Supergirl, we are very happy.
Booster, Countdown, JLA, Shadowpact (I seriously must be the only person still liking this series), Amazing Spider-Girl (liked it BEFORE the whole OMD fiasco. Will still like it AFTER they retcon), Angel and Fallen Angel; with a couple of looksies at some new stories being released this week. I like to try to support new stories when they come out, give them the best chance they can of getting to a trade. Mind you, the mountain of first issues that I own that I haven't continued with.... let's just say it's truly mountainous...
ReplyDeleteBaal: "Does that Penance cover look like Doom's deep throating the castle to anyone else?"
ReplyDeleteDon't know what you're talking about. Certainly looks like he's enjoying it though... wonder if he'll gargle.
Oh no. I didn't just say that.
Seriously.
And sorry for double posting.
Actually, Val, have you been reading The Sword? I'd be interested in your take on it.
ReplyDeleteNever mind that the crippled girl gets healed by a phallic symbol. Nope. Nothing Freudian here. Moving on.
