The MTV movies blog reports that The Rock is in talks to play not only Captain Marvel -- but Black Adam as well!
It's unclear whether he will play one and not the other or both in the proposed "Shazam!" movie -- but on the MTV blog he puts the matter up to a vote for the fans.
Finally, THE ROCK has come back to comics! How fun.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see him as Captain Marvel or both. He's got the perfect skin tone for Black Adam but I think he'd be better suited to Marvel.
ReplyDeleteThe guy was born to play Black Adam. He's certainly got the look, but also that Yul Brynner-like "So it is written...so shall it be done" stare that a character as haughty as Black Adam should have.

ReplyDeleteThe real question is, will this movie actually come about, or will it be stuck in the development hell that almost all the other DC projects (Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc) seem to be suffering.
The Rock needs a role where he can capitalize on his innate likability. Captain Marvel needs an actor who can believably play off both juvenile sweetness and the assured ability of a super-hero. Two great tastes that taste great together.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, any steroid freak can play Black Adam, and you can find guys bigger and nastier than Dwayne Johnson to bring the menace.
Oh man, Marvel for sure. I havn’t seen him “heel” as I think the term is (I guess in “The Mummy” as the Scorpian guy?) but he’s got an easy charisma that I’d really like to see as The Big Red Cheese. I wouldn’t be opposed to him as Earth’s Most Wanted Mortal, but I think Captain Marvel is the way to go– in fact, he’s a great, great pick. I’m excited about the possibility, to be quite frank.
ReplyDeleteBarf. People are crazy. Especially if they think the Rock as the lead in a superhero movie is going to go down any better than Shaquille O'Neal as Steel.
