New Comics Wednesday!

You know, looking at this handy New Comics List, I can't help but notice Avatar's variant cover program for their Night Of The Living Dead Annual:
Night of the Living Dead Annual #1, $4.99
Night Of The Living Dead Annual #1 (Gore Cover), $4.99
Night Of The Living Dead Annual #1 (LA Convention Edition), $5.99
Night Of The Living Dead Annual #1 (Painted Cover), $4.99
Night Of The Living Dead Annual #1 (Rotting Cover), $4.99
Night Of The Living Dead Annual #1 (Terror Cover), $4.99
Night of the Living Dead Annual #1 (Vows Cover), $5.99

They actually have separate "rotting," "terror," and "gore" variant covers. The "vows" cover is probably a wedding edition.

Water Baby from Minx is coming out today, and as I've mentioned earlier on this blog, it's worth taking a look at. Basically, forget about it being a supposed "manga-sized teen book for girls" and just buy it on its merits as a graphic novel. It's hard to get entire OGNs of this quality for under $10 anymore, so it's worth taking the chance.

Strange & Stranger: The World Of Steve Ditko from Fantagraphics also hits the stands today. As I've blogged about earlier in the week, the parts in the book about Ditko and Spider-Man are crucial to understanding the history of the webhead (is webhead hyphenated? capitalized?)

Also picking up:
Squadron Supreme 2 #1 - Marvel Comics
Patsy Walker Hellcat #1 - Marvel Comics
Lucky Vol. 2, #2 - Drawn and Quarterly

And what comics will YOU be purchasing this fine balmy Wednesday?

10 comments:

  1. For me this week:

    - Amazing Spider-man (yes, I'm loving BND, so sue me)

    - Astonishing X-Men (willing to give it a try post-Joss, for one issue anyway)

    - Buffy (because it's awesome)

    - Avengers Invaders (because I'm a sucker for the Invaders and time travel)

    - Secret Invasion Frontline (because I'm loving Secret Invasion more than I expected to)

  2. Off-topic, Val, but I just wanted to alert you to this bit from Racialicious: Cartoon Network targeting boys.

The article was written somewhat flippantly, but I found it interesting to note that in the comments, at least one person says their pitch of a female-centric superhero show was rejected because of this new direction.

  3. I'm getting Manhunter #32, Fables #74, House of Mystery #3 and What if? Fantastic Four: Tribute to Mike Wieringo (I didn't get it last week, because I was going to Wizard World Chicago).

House of Mystery has been a fun horror ride, and you can tell that Andreyko's putting a lot of effort into Manhunter. Fables is Fables, though.
    Which means it's awesome.

  4. Oh dear, I forgot about Squadron Supreme 2#1.

I really like Howard Chaykin, but it just doesn't seem like he's going to acknowledge the past Squadron, which I was a big fan of.

I think I'll wait for other peoples' verdicts on that one, but I'm really hoping Chaykin does the Squadron well.

  5. Light week for me.

Squadron Supreme 2 - intrigued to see what Chaykin is going to do with these guys

Echo 4 - Moore continues not to disappoint

Supergirl 31 - I have liked what Puckett has done more than any of the other writers prior on this title. Any thoughts on the new creative team starting with 34 OS?

  6. Buffy
    Fables
Legion of Super Heroes[I just know it's going to get canceled, by Shooter is doing a good job with the characters]

    I can't remember what else.

  7. Um, I think I just have Hellboy: the Crooked Man this week. Corben's hit or miss with me, but his last Hellboy one was good.

Shoot, I might have to hold out 'til I've got some books piled up...

  10. Did someone say Corben on Hellboy? That's the one I'd get if I could buy any comics this week, but I can't so I won't.

    Sigh...
