Why did they send it to a television station? Were they afraid that asking them to run a clip wouldn't work?
Studios are really weird sometimes. The latest Eddie Murphy movie received virtually no promotion, and the same for the X-Files. Batman which is already high profile, gets pushed more than ED medication. It just doesn't add up.
I heard about this viral marketing strategy a while back.
That original why so serious website had some address on it, which if you were the first person to go to was a bakery. You go into the bakery and they give you a cake which has a phone inside it which if you call a number, you get a message that you are part of the Joker's army.
I don't describe it that well, but the whole process sounded cool as hell.
FOX didn't care for 'Meet Dave' because of a falling out with its star/producer Eddie Murphy, plus the script was crap in the first place. X-Files is not being given a push it deserves because many at FOX film division hated the series and the first movie... there's also the possibility of this new X-Files film sucking hard, which will prompt FOX to say f**k it with the theatrical release and push it very hard for DVD/Blu-Ray, because they know the fans will definitely buy it... the same fans who bought the same episodes on DVD multiple times over.
