UPDATE: apparently what I at first glance considered a golden comedy moment in the latest episode of Justice League was merely a "beat" leading to another scene. Holy Freudian slip, Batman!
What I THOUGHT the panel read was,
My bad.
Isn't the break in his speech simply because he gets distracted by Mr. Terrific's chess exercise? He seems to be looking towards the boards in the second panel, and the next thing we see Bats do is explain the exercise. I also think he wants Clark because Karate Kid is from the 31st century, a fact that he confirmed through the Fortress' files. I don't think he's trying to ignore Dinah's authority.

Yeah I am not seeing the post point either. Bruce wasn't having a "oh yeah she is the leader" moment.

I can't even begin to figure out where your version came from.
He's definitely being a dick by dropping the conversation mid-sentence. That or he's embarassed by mispronouncing "dispLacement" and he's hoping no-one notices.

ReplyDeleteIt is uncharacteristic of Batman to be distracted from something important (like a temporal displacment) to something trivial (like a chess trick). And his using the chess trick to demonstrate that he's the "smartest guy in the room," i.e., he knows how the trick was done, does seem like something tht someone would do to cover a bit of embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I don't see Batman as having a "oh yeah, she's the leader" moment, because I don't see him having much of an "oh yeah, we have a leader" moment. Maybe a "what's a leader, and how does that apply to me?" moment, but that is different.
He would, however, want to know where Supes was, because he's the guy with time travel experience.
I saw the same thing you did but then, I'm female so maybe that's why.
