I Think I'll Give Up Self-Loathing For Lent

I Think I'll Give Up Self-Loathing For Lent

I mean, I was thinking of giving up something more standard, like fish or chocolate, but I think I'm going to give this a shot.

Now, self-deprecation I'm not totally giving up, as it keeps me from being a total self-righteous egomaniac.

A degree of self-deprecation keeps you honest.

But self-loathing I'm giving up starting this Ash Wednesday.

And in honor of the holiday, here's a couple of pictures of notable Catholic Supeheroines The Magdalena & The Huntress. Would Pope Benedict approve??? Soldier-chicks for Christ!

  1. Wasn't there a character a few years back called the "Warrior Nun?" Somehow I doubt she was "Pope-approved!" ;-)

  2. FINALLY I saw someone point out Huntress'stupid Jim Lee costume!

Jeez, why in the world would a no-nonsense, ass-kicking, violent vigilante (who's a mob daughter and a catholic girl to boot) wear THAT outfit??

I guess she didn't have time to change after her shift at the local strip joint...

I'm not even going to mention the Magdalene's costume, because, well, it's from 90's Image , and pretty much everything from their output at the time should just be dismissed as a big ner circle jerk.

    GREAT blog, by the way.

  3. Now you know where the bat-nipples come from. To be perfectly honest, the pope would probably approve of this.

  4. Despite the skimpiness of her costume, I do have to say that Magdalena looks like she could kick ass. ^_^

  5. Man, that Jim Lee-designed outfit makes me love the one it replaced (circa the "Huntress: Cry For Blood" mini) that much more.

Huntress is Catholic? I had no idea! That's pretty interesting...

  7. I've been complaining about Huntress' costume so much alrdy XD In fact that picture was used in one of my rants on my blog :)

Why would somebody who is basically a female Batman, suddenly switch to a costume that made LESS sense for a non-powered hero? The costumes aren't just aesthetic, according to DCU, Batman and his cohorts armour them with kevlar (thinniest kevlar, evar, but still). And here she is leaving her belly totally exposed. B/c, like, stomach wounds DO NOT SUCK OR NETHING!!!!

Also that picture has her clearly not wearing a bra, which is another great move for a crime-fighter (ignoring her crappy physique and spindly small arms).
