Knitting Frenzy

What does an Occasional Superheroine do for relaxation?

Knit, of course!

Comic Mix's own Martha Thomases
did the impossible -- she actually taught me how to knit!

What do you think of my work so far?

I've got some extra stitches here and there, but I think it could be an awesome scarf.

Pretty soon, I will be able to knit a whole suit!

  1. Wow, great job! I snapped a photo of you when you were just starting that piece. Color me impressed!!

  2. Woo! Knitting! My sister both knits and crochets, and has produced many an awesome and comfy afghan (and a Doctor Who scarf that I really like, but never wear, because I'm just not a scarf person.)

  3. That's a nice bit of knitting there. A friend of mine knits like crazy, and is teaching my daughter. I tried to learn, but can't get my fingers to make it not suck.

Speaking of knitting a suit, I just had the weirdest image of a superhero in an entirely knit costume.

  4. Awesome! (Try crochet sometime. We use hooks, we're badass! The underground badasses of yarn.)

  7. Can you make me a suit? My project is ending three days before Christmas, and I have to hit the interview trail...

  8. I tried to take up knitting and sadly failed miserably at it. ^^; The instructions were of no help.

  10. You mean you didn't learn how to knit through subliminal hypnosis while you were cryogenically frozen for a crime you didn't commit?

  11. That's great! I know nothing of the craft itself, but I know the world can always use more wonderfully warm scarves!

  12. My first job in publishing was as an assistant on knitting and craft books. Only one thing stuck with me: Check your gauge before you start. Otherwise you wind up making sweaters with eight-foot sleeves.

  13. knitting for you... or a little person?

  14. I can only crochet enough to finish the edge of knitting. Perhaps if I had learned knitting first ...

But it's easy and it's fun and it feels great. I made Lillian Baker a Supergirl cape, but not a whole costume.

  15. Congratulations! My soon-to-be-ex took up knitting a couple years back, and I know that it's not exactly easy to learn.

You realize, though, that your success here now means your S.O. will start repeatedly nagging you to make the Tom Baker scarf for him, right?

(And, when you get done with his, can I have one, too, please?)

  16. And here's a knitter you just simply have to know about:

The Occasional Superheroine Meets The Accidental Knitter! What a team-up that would be.

Some bias here, since it's my wife's page, but I can brag.
